An endlessly exhaustive game on humanity and what it means to live and die, FromSoftware’s modern classic was instead introduced to me as 'look at this hard as shit game, bet you can’t even beat the first boss.' They weren't wrong, I couldn’t even beat the Asylum Demon, as it grabbed my panic-struck character from a ledge and splattered them all over the ground below. I once had a friend who introduced me to Dark Souls.

As it stands, Salt & Sacrificeis a game full of frustrating moments that bog down the rest of the experience.Ska Studios' sequel to Salt and Sanctuary offers a wonderful suite of combat customisation, but some shallow storytelling holds it back.

A few tweaks to the stamina meter, the dodge roll & blocking mechanics, and the enemy attack patterns would do wonders for the game, as would a way to skip the chasing sequences and jump straight to the Mage bosses.

Salt & Sacrifice has the potential to be a great game, but it badly needs balancing fixes to allow it to live up to its potential, especially in regard to its battle system. In the Salt & Sacrifice multiplayer preview, it was possible to be invaded by enemy players, which would make the stages even more chaotic. It's possible to invade the worlds of other players, and team up with friends or strangers. The visuals in the game are a marked improvement over Salt & Sanctuary, as the Mage and regular boss designs are all fantastic, while some of the stages are oozing with atmosphere. One of the big new additions to Salt & Sacrifice is its multiplayer system. It's a shame that the Mages bring down the experience, as the few non-Mage boss battles in Salt & Sacrifice are a lot more entertaining, with interesting gimmicks and challenging battles that evoke that Soulslike feeling of accomplishment.
